This Privacy Policy explains how UNEE collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you use the UNEE mobile application. By using UNEE, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

1. Who We Are

UNEE is an educational technology platform designed for students in Cameroon and beyond. We provide access to academic study materials, AI-powered document summarization, streak-based study tracking, a contributor earnings program, and a referral rewards program through our mobile application. For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, UNEE acts as the data controller for information collected through the application.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Account Information: Full name, email address, and phone number when you register.
  • Profile Information: Institution, department, academic program, and profile picture (optional).
  • Payment Information: Mobile money phone number (MTN or Orange) for subscription payments and earnings payouts. We do not store full payment credentials — transactions are processed by Fapshi.
  • Uploaded Documents: Academic documents you submit through the contributor program.
  • Communications: Messages, ideas, and bug reports you submit through in-app channels.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: Features accessed, documents viewed, study sessions, streak data, and navigation patterns.
  • Search Queries: Terms you enter, timestamps, and your user identifier. Used to improve our content library. Never shared with third parties.
  • Device Information: Device type, OS version, and app version.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to provide and improve our services, process payments and payouts, send transactional emails, moderate uploaded content, and enforce our Terms of Use. We do not use your personal data for advertising, we do not sell your data to third parties, and we do not build advertising profiles based on your usage or search history.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate UNEE: Supabase (backend infrastructure), Fapshi (payment processing via MTN/Orange Money), and Resend (transactional email). We may also disclose data if required by law or to protect safety.

5. Document Storage & Access

Documents uploaded to UNEE are stored securely on Supabase Storage and are accessible only within the UNEE application. Documents cannot be downloaded to a user's local device. This protects the intellectual property of document contributors and prevents unauthorized redistribution. Appeal screenshots are automatically deleted within 24 hours of an appeal being resolved.

6. Payment Processing

Subscription payments and contributor earnings payouts are processed via Fapshi, which interfaces with MTN Mobile Money and Orange Money. UNEE does not store your full mobile money credentials. We retain only the transaction reference ID and status. Payment receipts are available in-app under My Subscription → Payment History.

7. Referral Program

Each registered user receives a unique referral code. If a new user enters your referral code during signup, we record that association permanently. When the referred user makes their first-ever subscription payment, you earn 20% of the fee (UNEE retains a 10% platform fee). Referral rewards are one-time only per referred user. Minimum withdrawal: 1,000 XAF, processed manually on weekends.

8. Data Retention

Account data is retained for the duration of your account plus 90 days after deletion. Payment and transaction records are retained for 7 years for legal compliance. Search query history is retained for 12 months then aggregated and anonymised. Appeal screenshots are deleted within 24 hours of resolution.

9. Your Rights & Choices

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. You may also request data portability, object to processing based on legitimate interest, or withdraw consent where applicable. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@uneeapp.online. We will respond within 30 days.

10. Children's Privacy

UNEE is intended for use by university and higher education students. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 16. If you believe a minor has registered on UNEE, please contact us immediately.

11. Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encrypted connections. Backend database access is controlled through Row Level Security (RLS) policies via Supabase. Authentication is handled through Supabase Auth with secure session management. Administrative access is restricted to authorized personnel. Despite these measures, no system is entirely secure — contact us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify you through an in-app notification or by email. Your continued use of UNEE after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance.
